Well might you wonder if you have the right street: the shabby Steine St is a gloomy cut-through from the Old Steine to just opposite the Pier. But stick with it … discreet behind its grey exterior is the Plotting Parlour, whose reputation for glamorous cocktails and elegant, friendly atmosphere means it has built a loyal following and won a number of awards. In amongst the classics are some exotic originals such as The Beekeper: buffalo trace bourbon, borage leaves, lemon and lavender marmalade, honey and lemon. There’s also wine beer and spirits for non-cocktail fans. Nibbles, but no food. Booking a table is advisable at weekends — many a first timer has had the disappointment of being turned away.
