THE PURLERS AT ST MARY’S CHURCH : 1030-1130

Do you enjoy knitting – or would you like to improve? This sociable knitting circle meets to knit squares for blankets which are sent to displaced families in Northern Iraq and Syria, via the Brighton-based charity, Samara’s Aid Appeal. The group also makes simple baby clothing for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. For venue and contact details, click here

FITNESS AND FEELGOOD KEMPTOWN, ACTUALLY! : 0845-1000 AND 1930

A Kemptown fitness meet-up of up to 12 women, organised by personal trainer Jeannie Hignell. Taking full advantage of the sea air, beach and open spaces which Kemptown has to offer, the group welcomes beginners and improvers. The Tuesday morning session exercise includes hooping, cardiovascular, dance, resistance, body weight and small equipment exercises and relaxation.  The Tuesday evening session 7.30 is  fitness training for runners. CHRIS DIFFORD AND ANTHONY WAYE AT THE LATEST MUSIC BAR: 2000

A chance to see two stars of the entertainment business in conversation in an evening organised by The Space. Chris Difford has iconic status as a musician, singer and songwriter starting with his Squeeze partnership with Glenn Tilbrook. He has also written for artists including Elton John, Elvis Costello and Jools Holland. Anthony Waye is a respected film industry veteran who has worked as producer and assistant director on films as diverse as Elephant Man, Where Eagles Dare, and Skyfall. SUPPER ‘N’ SCREEN – BE MY GUEST  AT BOM-BANE’S : 1900

It may be getting lighter, but there’s still a need for comfort food and good cinema. Bunker in tonight with Bom-Bane’s regular Wednesday night Supper ‘n’ Screen slot.  Tonight’s film is the 1965 British film Be My Guest about a London family who inherit a Brighton guest house. It features David Hemmings, Steve Marriott of the Small Faces and scenes filmed inside the old Brighton Hippodrome. Supper and the film cost £7.77. You need to book in advance, though. LIFEFIT FITNESS CLASS AT ST MARY’S CHURCH HALL: 1945-2015.

To busy to go to the gym? Or do you find exercise classes too frantic? This is a weekly, slow-motion fitness class, lasting only 30 minutes and limited to 10 people. LIFE DRAWING AT THE BLACK DOVE: 1930 – 2130.

Relaxed life drawing evening session for all abilities in the intimate and eclectic interior of the Black Dove at the top of St James St. The regular Wednesday session is run by Letgo Life Drawing, which also holds sessions on the first Monday of the month at the Black Dove’s cousin, Twin Pines Coffee, at the other end of St James. LED LIGHT SABRE TRAINING AT BRIGHTON YOUTH CENTRE: 1800, 1900, 2000

Channel your inner Luke Skywalker at these innovative combat training classes, using LED ‘Star Wars’-style light sabres. Organisers Silver Sabres have an ‘armoury’ of sabres for students to use. ADULT DRAMA CLASS AT ST GEORGE’S CHURCH CRYPT: 1915-2015

With so many acting classes for kids around it’s great to find one for adults. Teacher Nicky Davin was behind some fantastic theatre productions at Kemptown’s Brighton College and now brings her skills to a weekly session at St George’s, where adults can find fun and confidence in a relaxed and friendly drama class. YOUNG ACTORS GROUP AT ST MARY’S CHURCH : 1600 (JUNIORS), 1805 (SENIORS)

Weekly drama classes, run by theatre professionals, for young people aged between 8 and 19 in two locations in Kemptown: St Mary’s Church tonight – and Dorset Methodist Church on Saturdays. The Young Actors Group runs a number of schools across the southeast and has won an award for Best Young Production the Brighton Fringe. They also run a talent agency which has placed young talent in films, TV series, commercials and West End shows. Class members get a chance to write and direct their own material — and to take part in a theatre performance at Easter. SING FOR BETTER HEALTH AT PATCHING LODGE: 1030-1200

You don’t have to be a seasoned singer to join this weekly group, which supports people who are older or have health challenges such as breathing difficulties, Parkinson’s, depression, Alzheimer’s, MS, stroke, heart conditions, cancer, or mental health problems. The group practices relaxation, stretching and breathing exercises, and sings songs together. Sessions take place at Patching Lodge which is on the corner of Freshfield Rd and Eastern Rd, opposite the Gala Bingo Hall.
